two doors are opening

One leads inward, toward memory and the people who still shape us. The other leads into a theatre, where chocolate, story, and a little magic are waiting.

There are seasons that ask us to go outward—toward sun, noise, movement, and possibility.

And then there is this season.

The trees begin their slow surrender. The air sharpens. The veil feels less like a wall and more like a curtain stirred by a passing breeze. We remember the people who taught us, loved us, challenged us, and left their fingerprints on the way we move through the world.

At the same time, we are reminded that delight is not frivolous. It is medicine. It is a form of remembering, too.

Over the next ten days, I am opening two very different doors through The Cacao Dimension. One leads inward, toward memory and ancestral connection. The other leads into a theatre, where chocolate, story, cinema, and a little delicious mischief are waiting.

You are welcome at either door or both.

the first door: cacao & ancestors

who is peeking through the veil?

Friday, October 30

There are people we miss. There are people we never knew, but somehow carry. There are stories that live in our gestures, our faces, our fears, our gifts, and the ways we love.

On Friday, October 30, Denise Panner and I will gather for an intimate evening of heart-opening cacao, guided meditation, and ancestral remembrance.

We will create a communal altar—a place of honor for the beloved ancestors and departed ones whose lives, wisdom, and love still move through us. Bring a photograph, a small object, or simply a name written on a piece of paper. Each offering will be held with care on our altar and returned to you afterward.

At its center will be a gathering of stone orbs: small portals of welcoming light for wise elders, loving ancestors, and the keepers of old stories. Each guest will receive an orb of their own to take home—a small, tangible reminder that connection does not always end where we think it does.

We will share handmade local cacao, settle into a guided meditation, and cross the threshold with a specialty cacao truffle—an edible invitation to soften, listen, and remember.

This is not an evening of grief. It is an evening of relationship. Of love that continues. Of the possibility that wisdom may still be available to us when we become quiet enough to receive it.

And then, two days later, we gather for a completely different kind of spell.

Chocolat & Chocolates is not simply a movie afternoon. It is a love letter to cacao, pleasure, creativity, and the way one small act of beauty can change the feeling of an entire room.

At the historic Roxy Theatre, we will enter through a threshold of candied cacao and chocolate-drizzled popcorn, browse a makers’ market, settle into the glow of the screen, and watch the beloved film Chocolat together.

Before the lights dim, guests will be offered three petite butlered desserts, a trio of specialty cacao drinks, bespoke Italian sodas and an inspired box of popcorn. Afterward, each person will leave with a take-home collection of eight handcrafted chocolates—each one made from whole cacao beans that I roast, winnow, stone-grind, refine, temper, and mold by hand.

These are not anonymous little squares of chocolate. They are small stories of becoming, renewal, love, origin, stability, joy, possibility, and connection.

Because this afternoon falls just after Samhain and on Día de los Muertos, there will also be a gentle ancestor altar in the theatre. If you wish, bring a small photograph of someone you would like to honor. No ritual is required—only the invitation to let love have a seat beside you.

Come with your best friend. Bring your mother, your sister, your favorite chocolate person, or come alone and let yourself be cared for by an afternoon that asks nothing of you except that you enjoy it.

The screen will glow. The chocolate will melt. And ordinary life may feel, for a few hours, just a little more enchanted.
